2010s picks for the Cavs we wish would’ve worked out: Kevin Porter Jr.

The Cavs selected Kevin Porter Jr. with the final pick in the first round of the 2019 NBA Draft.

Porter easily could go on to be the steal of the draft. He had a great rookie season with the Cavs and it was expected that he would be a franchise player for years to come.

Nonetheless, after a few off-the-court incidents, Cleveland was forced to trade Porter to the Houston Rockets for only a future second-round pick that could very well not convey.

Porter has continued to progress and elevate his level of play in Houston, though. This season, he averaged 16.6 points and 6.3 assists per game.

He still has some work to do on his efficiency, however, he is on a fast track to possible superstardom.

The 2020-2021 season included a 50-point performance for him. This game made him the youngest player in NBA history to ever post a 50-point game. Along with this, he also had 11 assists in a 143-136 victory against the eventual NBA champion Milwaukee Bucks.

Moreover, Porter is already drawing comparisons to one of the greatest scorers in the league, James Harden.

While it is not guaranteed that he would have reached his full potential on the Cleveland Cavaliers, having Porter on the roster could have taken a great deal of time off of the Cavs rebuild.
