2010s picks for the Cavs we wish would’ve worked out: Anthony Bennett

With the first overall pick of the 2013 NBA Draft, the Cavaliers selected Anthony Bennett.

Bennett went on to be arguably the biggest bust in the entire history of the NBA. He only started in four games in his four-year career in the league.

None of these games came with the Cavaliers. He never averaged more than 15.7 minutes per game in a given season.

It was clear from the start that Bennett was not going to last long with the Cleveland Cavaliers. More times than not it is a very concerning sign when your first overall pick is not starting in their rookie year. Especially when looking at the state of the Cavaliers roster in the 2013-2014 season.

Coming into the draft, scouts were very high on Bennett, however, there were a plethora of red flags. He was compared to players like Larry Johnson and Blake Griffin.

Along with this, he was seen as the complete package who could do a little bit of everything.

Despite this, Bennett was a bit undersized to play his natural position of center in the NBA. Being forced to play power forward probably did not help Bennett’s transition to the pros, but, it is nowhere near enough to explain what went wrong with him.

If Bennett could have reached his full potential, the Cavs would have had a wide array of talent waiting for a LeBron James return to Cleveland.
