#1: The Young Bull is finally getting the recognition he deserves

This is not the first time Collin has been nominated for the Eastern Conference Player of the Week, as this actually the fifth time he’s been.

Either way, though, while Sexton has not won the honor yet this season, it’s becoming more and more clear that he’s finally getting the recognition he deserves as one of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ key young pieces.

In this past week’s games, which included two hard-fought wins over the Denver Nuggets and an overtime triumph over the San Antonio Spurs, Sexton averaged a whopping 31.0 points per game on 64.6 percent true shooting. That included consecutive career-high scoring games against the Utah Jazz on Monday (then 32 points) and in a narrow loss to Boston Celtics on Wednesday, in which Collin had 41 points on 17-of-30 from the field, and also had six assists.

In that game, Sexton also became just the third player in Cavs’ history to put up 40 points in a game before turning 22, joining the likes of LeBron James and Kyrie Irving.

Though Sexton did again, not win the East’s Player of the Week for this past week, with the Cavaliers so banged up, Collin really stepped up, and it’s nice to see him finally getting some recognition for his efforts. The fact that Sexton wasn’t initially named a Rising Star this year was a joke, really, but he’s well on the map now.

Additionally, during this past week, the Cavs did not have Andre Drummond (left calf strain) in three of those games, didn’t have Tristan Thompson (left knee contusion) in two of those outings and were without Darius Garland (left groin strain) in all of them.

Sexton’s performance in that stretch to me proved that if needed, Sexton can carry a huge workload and generate results, and run the show some sans Garland, and that’s my second takeaway from his most recent East Player of the Week nomination.
