Cleveland Cavaliers guard Collin Sexton was recently nominated for the Eastern Conference’s Player of the Week for this past week, and a few takeaways come to mine in regards to that.
At this point, if you’re a fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers that doesn’t believe Collin Sexton is a key part of their core going forward, I really don’t know what to tell you.
Sexton has continued to get better and better in his second season, and while I’ll admit, he has a ways to go still in terms of passing vision and off-ball defense, in particular, that’s not something that’s unusual when it comes to young score-first guards.
During this 2019-20 season in just his second year, Sexton has led the Cavaliers in scoring with 20.7 points per game, according to NBA.com, and he’s done that on a relatively efficient 55.7 percent true shooting clip, at least for a young guard.
Along with that, Collin has again not missed a game to this point, and I would imagine given his work ethic and durability, will go through another whole season not missing a game, which is pretty darn impressive for in its own right with Sexton being 6-foot-1 and not a LeBron James-type of athlete.
Anyway, it was really great to see that Sexton was recently nominated for the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for this past week on Monday, as was h/t Basketball Insiders’ Spencer Davies.

Bradley Beal, Caris LeVert, Domantas Sabonis and Nikola Vučević were also candidates behind the winner, Norman Powell.
Sexton was not given that honor, as it was given to the Toronto Raptors’ Normal Powell, but a few takeaways come to mind in regards to Sexton being nominated for that distinction.
The first relates to recognition beginning to come for the Young Bull.
