Team #2: San Antonio Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs are on the hot seat.

They lost out on Chris Paul this offseason, and while they did add Rudy Gay, they still have several young, unproven stars that will take up the bulk of the minutes during the season. Those young players include Kyle Anderson, Davis Bertans and others in the backcourt. The Spurs frontcourt is not too deep though, and Jefferson could add his expertise there.

Even though Jefferson could help develop and lead those young stars, his acquisition would be mainly a cautionary add in case Kawhi Leonard’s injury issues continue throughout the season. If his hamstring continues to bother him, Jefferson could keep a stable presence on the court for the Spurs, and his attitude is almost certain to match that of legendary coach Gregg Popovich.

The Cavaliers asking price for Jefferson wouldn’t be that much, so it might be worth a speculative add for the perennially excellent Spurs. Jefferson is a winner, and San Antonio would be a fantastic fit.

Possible trade: Jefferson for a second-round pick
