Isaiah Mobley played great for the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2023 Las Vegas Summer League, and his performance was one of the driving forces behind Cleveland’s Summer League Championship victory over the Houston Rockets earlier this month. Mobley was the 2023 Summer League Championship Game MVP with 28 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and steals in that outing.

In his second time around with the Cavaliers in Summer League, he posted averages of 17.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.0 steals per contest. Mobley was one of the standouts for Cleveland in Vegas, and he carried forward what was a promising G League season for him in 2022-23.

Mobley did not play much in his rookie year with the Cavaliers, appearing in only 12 games, in which he had 2.6 points and 1.7 rebounds in 7.0 minutes per outing. He was on a two-way contract last season, though, so the opportunities with the Wine and Gold were likely going to be limited for the 2022 second-round pick, and that’s what occurred.

Despite that, as we were hinting at earlier, Mobley took advantage of the reps he did have with the Cavaliers’ G League affiliate, the Cleveland Charge. In 22 games with them then, he averaged 21.0 points, 8.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.2 blocks per contest.

Currently, Mobley is set to be on a two-way deal again next season, with him, 2023 second-round pick Emoni Bates and undrafted signing Craig Porter Jr. occupying Cleveland’s three two-way contracts.

Although in Mobley’s case, it’d be a sensible move for the Cavaliers to strongly consider giving him a standard contract and converting his two-way deal.

Isaiah Mobley’s deal being converted to a standard one would be a logical move by the Cavs, for two key reasons.

The first of those reasons would be added frontcourt depth, and with him making smart plays.
