At fourth in the Eastern Conference, expectations are set high for every player on the Cleveland Cavaliers roster. Every game calls for excellence, because this group has the potential to reach that excellence.

With recent play, high enough praises cannot be sung for second-year star Evan Mobley. The sophomore star has put up 19.2 points a game on about 34 minutes of play thus far in February, accompanied by 8.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.3 blocks. On the season, Mobley averages 16 points a game with similar rebounds, assists, and blocks.

Statistics alone do not paint this picture accurately. Mobley’s biggest leap has been in offensive aggression. His willingness to drive straight toward defenders with finesse and determination is leagues beyond where he began this season.

The quiet, deliberate demeanor Evan Mobley typically showcases was on display during offensive possessions, leaving some fans wanting for more. In February, he has answered those fans with a display of truly incredible talent.

Putting the league on notice

His newfound dominance has not gone unnoticed, stirring excitement by fans and professionals who cover the team alike.

From the beginning of the year, Cleveland’s future cornerstone player began displaying outstanding court vision for a player of his size and position. Mobley orchestrated the offense from the free throw line, swinging the ball to open shooters in the corner the moment the ball came in his hands. This proves his knowledge of his teammates’ positioning at every second.

With his scoring and confidence coming together, his defensive and playmaking talents have not subdued. As the team continues fighting for playoff positioning, Mobley’s play this month has greatly assisted the Cavaliers toward big wins.

He has become a dynamic threat on offense, causing defenders to scramble to keep up. For this reason, Evan Mobley has been the most important player on the Cavaliers roster this past month.

Looking forward to the rest of the season, Mobley will need to continue his confidence in preparation for the intense atmosphere of the NBA Playoffs. As J.B. Bickerstaff believes, Mobley should be able to rise his game to that next level and play a critical role in the postseason.
