The Cleveland Cavaliers already had a diverse portfolio in terms of hair at the beginning of last season, but they have managed to one up themselves through various additions made so far in the offseason.
Jarrett Allen started this trend for the Cavs when they first acquired him via trade from the Brooklyn Nets.
Jarrett Allen has always stood out on NBA courts, and it’s not all due to his stellar defense and incredibly underrated ability to make everything work on offense either. He has rocked a fro throughout his entire career, earning his nickname.
They only built on this by adding Ricky Rubio’s flowing locks to the roster in a trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves, who was recently brought back via free agency, after he was traded near the past deadline to the Indiana Pacers as an expiring contract guy.
Darius Garland even started adding to this last season by tying his dreads up in the front in a unique and iconic style that didn’t block his own shot like Elfrid Payton did a few years ago. Can’t make that up.
They already had some of the best hair in the NBA last season.
The Cavaliers may have realized this and may be building on that idea in the NBA Draft and Free Agency period.
With the 56th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft the Cavaliers selected Luke “Mullet Mania” Travers, investing in the hair lineup. Travers is a draft-and-stash guy for at least next season likely, but for the sake of this exercise, we’ll include him. He is at least on the Cavs Las Vegas Summer League squad, for what it’s worth.
The Cavs also brought back Ricky Rubio in free agency, bringing back his flow, and also the elite playmaking he brings to the table.
Robin Lopez is another player signed by the Wine and Gold of late. Once again rocking his iconic Anderson Varejao-type hair, bringing even more spice to this already stacked barber shop. Lopez has the makings of a fan favorite, with his hilarious personality, too.
Let’s not discount Collin Sexton’s hairstyle, who seems likely to be back, either, nor Isaac Okoro’s versatile looks. Okoro has often featured braids, or at times, with the braids out and the fro look.
The Cleveland Cavaliers also have numerous players with hair styles a little more common in the NBA.
Kevin Love has been rocking with his curly hair fade and sculpted beard ever since he was traded to the great city of Cleveland, who can blame him though, he rocks it.
Evan Mobley also runs with a more typical look for the NBA; a shorter hair style that many players play with when they are still in the beginning of their careers.
Raul Neto is another example of a player on the Cavs who doesn’t have flashy hair, there are others, but these players keeping it casual make the rest of the roster who choose to draw eyes with their hair as well as their games look even better as they rock their styles.
The only things missing from the Cavaliers diverse portfolio of hair are Alex “bald eagle” Caruso and Kawhi Leanard to round the different hair styles that the NBA has to offer.
