Free agents 25 or under for Cavs to pursue: Frank Jackson

Frank Jackson is not exactly a household name. The former Duke guard went with the 31st pick in the 2017 NBA Draft and missed his entire rookie season due to a foot injury. Since then, he has carved out a role for himself as a reliable combo guard who can create off the dribble and competes on defense.

Jackson’s problem is his shot. To make it as a bench guard in the NBA you have to competently run an offense (shaky for Jackson) and/or you have to absolutely bomb away from deep. Jackson shot 40.7 percent from deep two seasons ago, but last year that number plummeted to 30.8 percent from 3-point range.

If the Cavs go the Ricky Rubio route at point guard, adding a guard like Jackson is not a terrible idea. He’ll likely be available for the minimum, or close to it, and he can help to hold down the fort behind Garland until Rubio is healthy. He will be inexpensive and fit into their culture, and perhaps he still possesses a dash of upside.
