Should Cavs consider this trade with PHI proposed by The Sixer Sense?

Examining the deal from Philly’s side

First, we’ll examine the deal from Philadelphia’s perspective. For them, as Johnson suggested, they’d be netting a great fit at the 4 in Kevin Love next to Joel Embiid in the frontcourt.

While everybody and their brother, sister and dog would acknowledge that Love hasn’t lived up to his prior four-year, $120 million extension from 2018, because of injuries, issues within the team dynamic and somewhat underwhelming play, he’s still a valuable offensive player.

Love this season has largely excelled in a move to a bench role, and has connected on 40.3 percent from three on the season, and he’s still a more than capable mid-post contributor, secondary playmaker and an elite defensive rebounder.

He’s a cerebral player that could mesh seamlessly within Philadelphia’s offense, and even with his defensive limitations on-ball, with his fit as a floor spacer and movement shooter, and with Love’s deal being expiring after next season, perhaps Philly might consider him.

From there, even with Sexton having been out since November due to a torn meniscus, I don’t believe that’s something one should be overly concerned about looking onward, particularly with the dude’s amazing work ethic.

As Johnson alluded to, he might be signable via discounted deal coming off the injury; I’m not sure about that one, though, particularly with how Sexton had 24.3 points per outing last season. He demonstrated considerable growth as a playmaker, especially in the secondary playmaking variety as well, and his off-ball progression jumped out more as the year progressed. I also don’t put too much stock into his ups and downs early on this season, either, with a role change to some degree.

From there, however, would the Sixers be that high on Love for this season and perhaps next? And would Sexton potentially buy into a bench role? Many seem to suggest that for him outright among the Cavs fan base, and I’m personally not for it. Him being staggered is fine, but a guy that gifted offensively as a three-level scorer and transition player might not exactly be bought into that proposition.

Maybe Philly would possibly look into a sign-and-trade deal involving Sexton from there; who knows.
