By John Suchan
Garland’s performance in a 128-119 Cavs OT win at the Detroit Pistons on Dec. 26, 2020
In only the second game of the 2020-21 season, Garland showed us all why he is so valuable to this team. He finished with 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting and had a stellar 12 assists in an overtime W.
Playing nearly the entire game, he was perfect behind the 3-point line going 3-for-3. He had 5 rebounds on the night as well including a blocking a shot, and he was a +19 while on the court.
Garland’s performance in a 125-101 Cavs win at the San Antonio Spurs on April 5
We do save the best game for last. Garland was spectacular. He was weaving his way through the San Antonio Spurs defense all night, and was taking it into the paint at will.
He finished with 37 points on 14-of-22 shooting, and he went 5-for-10 from 3-point range and went a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. He also added seven assists and two steals along with another blocked shot.
And he did all of this in only 29 minutes of playing time when the Cavaliers were a +20 when Garland was playing. Not a bad night indeed.
The Spurs game was an outliner to the rest of Garland’s season as far as points are concerned, but it gave all of us a look into just how talented Garland is and will be as his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers continues!
