Cavs: The ceiling of Evan Mobley

Evan Mobley is coming into the league after his freshman year at USC where he averaged 16.4 points per game, in addition to 8.7 rebounds, and 2.4 assists.

Standing at 7-foot, he definitely has stretch potential. During his sole collegiate year, Mobley shot an impressive 57.8 percent from the field, and 30.0 percent from the three. For a big man that is projected to play the power forward and/or center role in the NBA, those shooting percentages show he can be utilized in a multitude of ways in this league, when you see the touch/feel he has.

Mobley is a substantial defender, not only with his 8.7 rebounds per game, but with his 2.9 blocks per contest as well. Mobley’s defensive prowess is due in part to his mobility and his keen propensity to block shots.

Evan Mobley would be a defensive weapon for any team. As an anchor of the defense, and talented scorer with a variety of skills to his name, Mobley has been compared to some elite company, such as Chris Bosh. The big man from USC is without a doubt a top contender for one of the top players in the 2021 NBA Draft class.

That being said, Mobley does come with some concerns. His frame being one of them. Mobley definitely needs to add some more muscle mass to his frame if he is going to be able to hold his own against the other bigs in the league, as KJG’s Dan Gilinsky mentioned. That is something that can be accomplished as time goes on, but it is still worth noting.

Overall, Evan Mobley’s ceiling in the NBA is as a potential All-Star power forward and/or center on a team’s starting lineup. Yet, his ceiling specifically in Cleveland would be that of a starting power forward alongside Jarrett Allen, should the Cavaliers keep the Fro long term.
