Cleveland Cavaliers: Is Kevin Love a long term fit with CLE?
By Mack Perry
#2: Seemingly diminished trade value in recent years with the Cavs
As I mentioned before, Love has been on the trading block numerous times throughout the duration of his stay in Cleveland. For better or worse though, the big man has remained on the roster with each passing year.
His trade value appears to be dwindling with each passing season. As Love continues to age and more and more injuries continue to occur (he’s missed most of this season due to right calf injury complications, for instance) teams have seemingly become less and less interested in trading for the former All-Star.
His contract, which was signed prior to the start of the 2018-2019 season, is paying him north of $31 million. Love is currently in Year 2 of said contract extension and doesn’t look to be on the move anytime soon.
That is a hefty price to pay for a player who isn’t a lock to play on a nightly basis. It has become crystal clear that the rest of the NBA doesn’t view Love as it once did.
There was a period of time in which he could legitimately lay claim to being a top five player at his position. That time has passed but Love can still be an asset to the Cavaliers.
