Wing insurance/depth for the Cavs

The Cleveland Cavaliers have been decimated with injuries this season, which is crazy to think considering how they are currently in playoff contention. These injuries have led to two-way player Lamar Stevens and prior two-way player last season and realistically more so end-of-bench-type player Dean Wade getting much more minutes than anyone had anticipated.

The addition of Prince makes it so those players won’t have such a burden to garner.

The saying “you can never have too many wings” is speaking strongly for the Cavaliers right now as practically anyone’s services are needed for this team. This added depth takes some offensive and defensive pressure away from Isaac Okoro and Cedi Osman. Not only does added depth decrease the chance of injury but, it adds much-needed competition.

During training camp, Isaac Okoro, Cedi Osman and Dylan Windler all emphasized how competition at the small forward position was great for the trio as it kept them on their toes and meant that they had to play their best basketball. With this, we saw Osman have a hot start to the season before the injuries had started to shift his role on the team.

With Prince being added to the mix, I expect the competition to ramp back up again and the hope here is that all four small forwards will look to play their best basketball. That’s when Windler can be back in the fold, in relation to him being sidelined because of a fractured left hand, anyhow.
