#2: Easing the playmaking burden for other Cavs

Ferrell is a score-first player, and that’s apparent, but he should be able to ease the playmaking burden for other Cavs, such as Osman and Dotson, who’ve have had much more of one with Garland sidelined.

Now, those two have done a really commendable job as de facto primary playmakers for the Cavaliers, and even more so in the games without Sexton, and that’s clear. However, having a natural 1 in Ferrell in there to help bide time without Garland available, feasibly for a few games potentially, should aid the Cavs offense.

When DG is back in the fold, I could still foresee Ferrell having a considerable playmaking role during his 10-day stint, anyhow, as Cleveland will want to ease Garland into things again, one would assume. Ferrell is not the passer Garland is, albeit Ferrell could fill in as a capable ball-mover/help get guys the rock in their preferred spots.

I’d expect Yogi to get Drummond/McGee looks on the block, and/or via rolling feeds, to go with Nance some, and Sexton/Dotson/Osman/Nance should be able to get some quality looks from the perimeter via catch-and-shoots after deliveries from ball-swings and/or drive-and-kicks in stretches with Ferrell.

And overall, I’d expect Ferrell to be able to just give Cleveland a viable primary playmaker, which will be a welcomed addition, given their injuries.

As a quick side note, though, as h/t ESPN’s Tim Bontemps, along with postponing two games, the NBA and NBPA did have a meeting on Monday discussing , regarding COVID-19, “modifying the league’s Health and Safety Protocols”.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported how the league’s general managers were set to have a conference call with the league on Monday, too, and then reported how the league is set to have a Board of Governors meeting on Tuesday.

Although, Wojnarowski did also detail in a report how the league is looking to keep pushing forward with the season, but is looking to tighten COVID-19 protocols. Wojnarowski did also note in his report how the league did discuss “expanding rosters to 19, including the ability to keep four two-way players on rosters, but that change wasn’t adopted.”

Moreover, we’ll have to see what plays out in relation to what’s to come after these meetings/calls, albeit during his 10-day deal with the Cavaliers, I’d expect Ferrell to have some rust, sure, but be pretty competent offensively.

Perhaps he could be signed to a rest-of-season deal if the Cavs were to potentially one of Thon Maker, Dean Wade or maybe Matthew Dellavedova, but we’ll again, we’ll see.
