#1: Perimeter/PnR scoring viability for the Cavs

Ferrell did not have much of a role with the Sacramento Kings last season, as he played a career-low 10.6 minutes per outing, in which he had 4.4 points and 1.4 assists per outing. Albeit Ferrell did have more of one with the Kings in 2018-19, in which he had 5.9 points and 1.9 assists per contest in an average of 15.0 minutes.

And previously with the Dallas Mavericks, with whom he played in roughly 1.5 seasons with in 2016-17 and 2017-18, Ferrell had 10.6 points, 3.0 assists and 2.9 rebounds in 28.2 minutes per contest.

For the Cavs, while I understand that this is just going to be via 10-day deal, Ferrell could give Cleveland a perimeter scoring boost, and viable pick-and-roll ball handler. Ferrell does a nice job getting to his spots in the mid-range area, where he’s a capable pull-up threat, and can get in the lane for floaters/push shots at times.

Along with the off-the-bounce/mid-range game, Ferrell, albeit he has been somewhat streaky, can help space the floor some for Cleveland.

He’s hit 36.7 percent of his three-point attempts in his four seasons, so he could be a kickout/ball-swing off-the-catch threat from beyond the arc for the likes of Larry Nance Jr., Sexton (when he’s back), Cedi Osman, Damyean Dotson and/or others.

Also in the on-ball/perimeter scoring realm, though, Ferrell should aid Cleveland in the PnR scoring department.

Ferrell is really quick, and is more than capable as a shot-maker with his ability to change speeds, and I’d imagine could get his share of downhill/at the basket scoring chances after screens set by Drummond/Nance and/or JaVale McGee when he’s in there.

We did some of the PnR scoring capability/pull-up feel from Ferrell on Monday in a loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, one in which Yogi had a more than respectable nine points on four-of-nine shooting in 17 minutes.

Next up, we’ll examine the other realistic expectation for Ferrell during this 10-day stint with Cleveland.
