Love to Sexton should be on-point for the Cavaliers

With Love’s ability to make plays on the perimeter and out of the high/mid-post for others with the attention he draws, we could see plenty of skip feeds to Sexton leading to quality catch-and-shoot looks. And in that realm, Sexton hit 42.1 percent of his catch-and-shoot three-point attempts in 2019-20, per NBA.com’s shot tracking data.

With Love’s passing feel and vision, he’s more than capable of hitting those opportunities when off-ball defenders are caught a bit out of position, too, and Sexton, whose an ever-improving shooter, will make them pay.

Along with that, if defenders look to shut off Sexton catch-and-shoot opportunities in close proximity to Love/on the strong side, Sexton could make a decisive cut toward the basket as a counter.

Sexton showed real growth as a cutter as his past season wore on, which is where I’m going there. Plus, with them being more comfortable with each other’s games, eye contact between Love and Collin in that regard and/or with Sexton cutting toward the middle via diagonal cuts from the weak side could bode well.

Additionally, with Love often as a player that can initiate offense in settled situations, Sexton could really benefit from handoffs from Love, which could lead to open floaters/better angles for drives. Some quick shots from the perimeter there could play out at times, too.

Lastly, let’s not discount outlet passes from the former to the Young Bull, who, thanks to a bigger, stronger frame due to an extended offseason, should be even more dynamic in transition. His speed kills in those scenarios, too, and Love is often on-point in that realm to Sexton and others.

Moreover, considering Love had the most assists of any Cav last season to Sexton, per NBA.com’s shooting data, that connection should be all systems go in 2020-21.

So how about the other side of this?
