While the Cleveland Cavaliers could look to trade Kevin Love at some point in the near future with the team rebuilding, they should stay committed to him in coming years.

Kevin Love was on a roll for the Cleveland Cavaliers before the NBA’s league-wide suspension took place and is in effect until further notice due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

To quickly recap, Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19 on March 11, and the 2019-20 season has been suspended since then, and as far as other updates on COVID-19’s impact on the NBA/potentially when the season could resume, you can view those here.

The league and the NBPA had also agreed on a moratorium period on March 13, too, relating to freezing all transactions during the season’s hiatus, for reference, per Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.

Granted, that agreement’s only until April 10, and we’re looking at down the road, though another agreement could potentially be agreed upon with the league being on hiatus seemingly much longer, and feasibly at least until “mid-to-late June,” based on previous reports.

Anyway, swinging back to Love, currently at this time with the NBA’s season suspended, in 2019-20, he is averaging 17.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game, according to NBA.com. Clearly, the veteran forward is still a reliable player for this team.

As time goes on though, it is inevitable that Love’s age will get the better of him, however, that should not stop Cleveland from keeping him on the roster in coming years. While we all know Love will be compensated handsomely with him due to make $91.5 million over the final three years of his contract, the Cavs should stay committed to him. Plus, he and head coach J.B. Bickerstaff have a great relationship.

Kevin Love has been key to the Cavaliers’ success since he came to The Land before the 2014-15 season after he was dealt here by the Minnesota Timberwolves. At 31 years old, he still has a plethora of talent and skill left in him.

While I understand that the big man has had a well-documented injury history, Cleveland should stick with Love and utilize his strengths with this young team during this rebuilding phase.

Here, we’ll examine three reasons why Cleveland would benefit from keeping Love on their roster for the future/in coming years, beginning with a two-man game involving Love that could work out really well in due time.
