The 1990’s throwbacks and a “moment of celebration” for Fred McLeod

The Cleveland Cavaliers will be wearing their 1990’s throwback, or “Classic” uniforms, well they’re pretty darn similar at least to the ones back then, in this first home game of 2019-20.

Those uniforms were such an awesome color scheme of orange, black and powder blue back in the day, and seeing these mostly similar jerseys will be really cool for Cavs fans.

Back in the mid-to-late-90’s, Cleveland players such as initially Mark Price, along with Chris Mills, and later on, Shawn Kemp and Wesley Person, were sporting that look.

Seeing current Cavs such as Garland, Sexton and Larry Nance Jr. wearing these Classic uniforms will be quite a sight.

Plus, for the first time in the team’s 50th season, that’ll add to it even more so.

Initially, Nance and Garland debuted these jerseys, as was highlighted at the time by the team. The Cavs also recently tweeted out this on Friday.

These threads won’t allow the Cavs to simply shoot better than the abysmal 37.1% they shot versus the Magic (which I hope was an anomaly), but either way, they’ll add some more juice to the contest and again, pay tribute to an extent to the team’s 50th season.

The Cavaliers have one of the most loyal fan bases in the NBA, just ask Nance, whose dad, Larry Nance, is one of the best players in team history, and was a two-time All-Star for Cleveland.

Moreover, these jerseys are ones that I’m sure the fans of the squad, including myself, will absolutely love to see the team rocking.

Maybe the youngsters, such as Garland and rookie wing Kevin Porter Jr., who was scoreless but I thought did some nice things in terms of his playmaking and perimeter defensive play against the Magic, can ball out in these uniforms at home.

Along with those uniforms, it will also be cool to see the video tribute during Cleveland’s “moment of celebration” for late play-by-play broadcaster Fred McLeod, which will take place during this first home game of 2019-20.

This is a great approach for honoring Fred, who was as glass half-full as it gets, and the Cavaliers naming their media work space after McLeod was the right thing to do as well.

McLeod brought such excitement and energy to every broadcast he had on Fox Sports Ohio for 14 seasons, starting in 2006, alongside Cavs legend Austin Carr, and Fred’s legacy will always live on in Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.

I’m sure the team commemorating him in the 2019-20 home opener will bring a bunch of happy memories for McLeod’s wife, Beth (of Fox 8, by the way), and their family, along with fans of the Wine and Gold.

The call of the Cavaliers winning the NBA championship in 2016, which Beth tweeted out at the time, I’d imagine will be shown during that tribute, and so many other awesome moments from Fred’s broadcasts.

Again, rest easy, Fred. You were as good as it gets.
