Cleveland Cavaliers: Where Darius Garland ranks against other starting PGs
24. Ja Morant- Memphis Grizzlies
This is another case of not wanting to overrank a rookie point guard. Ja Morant is going to be the guy in Memphis after the franchise has entered a complete rebuild.
Morant is a front runner for the NBA Rookie of the Year award this season. His usage will be through the roof on a team devoid of playmakers.
Morant had a splendid final season at Murray State last year. Per Sports Reference, he averaged 24.5 points per game, 10.0 assists per game, and 5.7 rebounds per game.
23. Reggie Jackson – Detroit Pistons
The starting point guard position in Detroit could be an interesting battle with the Pistons signing of Derrick Rose this offseason. Rose had somewhat of a comeback year last season. Per Basketball-Reference he averaged 18.0 points per game, 4.3 assists per game, and 2.7 rebounds per game.
Reggie Jackson will remain the starter at point guard, for now. He has the advantage over Rose because he has been there and has the chemistry with Andre Drummond and Blake Griffin. Rose may end up stealing the job from him at some point, but for now, it belongs to Jackson.
For his career, Jackson has per-game averages of 12.9 points, 4.4 assists, and 3.0 rebounds (Basketball-Reference).
22. Dejounte Murray – San Antonio Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs gem of a draft pick, Dejounte Murray tore his ACL in camp last year. He was fantastic as a rookie for the Spurs, he would be higher on the list if it weren’t for the ACL tear.
The Spurs will welcome Murray back as he will help defensively and on the glass, which are his specialties.
In his lone season that he participated, Murray had per-game averages of 6.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists.
