#2: There’ll be no substitute for a strong work ethic

More from Opinion

The Cleveland Cavaliers constantly preached throughout this past season how when it comes to what they are looking for with their roster, coaching staff and organization as a whole in the near future, one’s work ethic has to be great.

We’ve often discussed how Sexton fits that mold, and it seems that others on the roster fit that, too, and potential head coaching candidates should be no different.

Teams that are focused on developing young players, which Cleveland will tasked with doing in the coming years, have to be willing to put the effort in every day, and Altman touched on that really throughout his last presser.

It’s understandable to believe that sort of approach for teams should be second nature, but considering the way Cleveland’s last season went, with all the tough circumstances with a grocery list of injuries to Kevin Love (who only appeared in 22 games, per Basketball Reference) and others, to go with the team losing 63 games, it was nice to hear Altman today credit Drew and Cleveland’s player this year for their unwavering work ethic and outstanding professionalism.

Here’s a bit on that sort of thing from Altman, per the aforementioned Davies.

This Altman bit hits on strong work ethic from the next head coach being so essential to the team getting better in the next few years, too, courtesy of the Associated Press’ Tom Withers.

The third and final takeaway from Altman’s end-of-season press conference was that Cleveland is going to keep doing all it can to have sustainability for the long-term by accumulating trade assets and young talent.
