Cleveland Cavaliers draft picks since 2013: Where are they now?
Jones has formed into a trust-worthy backup point guard
The 24th pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, Tyus Jones was drafted by the LeBron James-led Cavaliers. The Cavs had a loaded roster which was hard-pressed for open spots, leaving Jones on an island and bound to be traded.
Jones was traded draft night after being selected by Cleveland. He was traded for two second-round picks to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Those picks turned into former Syracuse Orangeman Rakeem Christmas and current fan-favorite Cedi Osman, both being drafted in the same 2015 draft class.
For Jones, he’s finally coming into his own in Minnesota. He’s a solid and capable backup to Jeff Teague yet saw his minutes take a significant reduction with the mid-season signing of 2011 MVP Derrick Rose.
That signing didn’t stop Jones from having his best professional season last year. He averaged 5.1 points, 2.8 assists and a mere 0.7 turnovers per game. His 4:1 turnover ratio was the real eye-popper last season.
Jones is in the last season of his contract and is set to make $2.4 million. If he continues with his slow, yet steady, development, he should be able to sign a more long-term deal this upcoming offseason.
