Keep Him:

With only two years left on his deal, there is no point in taking on extra years of salary or giving away future picks to get rid of Clarkson. While the Post-LeBron Cavs want to remain competitive and avoid a full-rebuild, they should also be realistic.

Getting stuck with only a marginally better player at the cost of valuable assets is shortsighted as the team’s promising young core of Sexton, Osman, and Zizic is likely a couple years away.

The Cavs, then, should be forced to keep him. And though they have the personnel to bury him at the one- and two-guard (George Hill, Collin Sexton, J.R. Smith, Kyle Korver), they should give him a hefty share of minutes.

Clarkson needs the opportunity to revitalize his effectiveness and remind people why the Lakers originally signed him to this contract.

Clarkson should still come off the bench and play mostly at the shooting guard alongside Hill and Sexton. There, he can assume secondary playmaking responsibilities, which is probably where he’s best. He shined in doing this next to D’Angelo Russell in L.A.

So long as the ball doesn’t stick too much to Clarkson’s hands, he may prove to be a great energy guy off the bench to pair with the talented Young Bull and his equally young and talented friends.
