Summer League What We Learned: Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Toronto Raptors
The Cavs aren’t afraid to play Collin Sexton off-ball.
ESPN’s senior writer Brian Windhorst has already speculated that the Cavs could start Sexton with George Hill next season as a way to presumably ease the rookie into being an NBA point guard.
That would be the smart thing for the Cavs to do. Sexton is only 19-years-old and his court vision isn’t where it needs to be yet. Sexton has shown at times this summer that he can be a capable passer but that’s probably his most inconsistent area.
The last two games the Summer League coach James Posey has played Sexton and pure point guard Scoochie Smith on the floor at the same time. To his credit, Sexton has shown that he can be capable playing off-ball in the time that both have shared the floor.
Sexton has the scoring capabilities to be a solid NBA point guard. However, the difference between him being good and being an All-Star could be determined by how he develops as a passer.
