Film Room: What does George Hill bring to the Cleveland Cavaliers?
By Simon Hannig
The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Sacramento Kings are talking about a deal, which would send George Hill to the Cavaliers for Iman Shumpert and Channing Frye.
However, there is a bump in the road on the trade. Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com reports the Cleveland Cavaliers and Sacramento Kings are still far apart on a trade.
"One source told cleveland.com that the two sides were speaking “conceptually” about Hill and were never close; another said the Cavs sought to change the parameters of a potential trade."
Derrick Rose was another name that could be traded to the Kings, reports Vardon.
"Conceptually, at least, the Cavs would get Hill from the Kings and send Channing Frye and Iman Shumpert to Sacramento. Derrick Rose could also have been involved and perhaps a future second-round draft pick."
Hill is also suffering from an injury that occurred in the playoffs last spring.
"Also, a league source told cleveland.com that Hill may still be dealing with a sore toe that nagged him last season and forced him out of three playoff games when he was with Utah against Golden State in May."
However, let’s take a look at what George Hill can bring to the team.
According to Spotrac, here is Hill’s contract breaks down.

I think the first question that pops into every Cavs fans head, does Hill start? Does he play at point guard and move Isaiah Thomas to shooting guard? Does Hill start at shooting guard? Or does Hill play starting point guard and Thomas gets moved to the bench?
It will be interesting to see what the Cavs do when they eventually acquire Hill from the Sacramento Kings.
Anyways, let’s talk about what Hill brings to the team.

Dynamic combo-guard & brings the team energy & defense
Hill is a complete player that plays on the offensive end and defensive end exceptionally well. His numbers have dipped on the defensive end, but he is on a not-so-great team in the Kings. Hill is averaging 10.3 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game with a 13.95 per. Hill is also shooting 44.8% from three-point range and has an effective field goal percentage of 54.9%. He is also still clutch.
He can also still break down one of the best point guards in the NBA.

Defense
George Hill is still one of the very underrated combo-guard in the game today. He defends very well, despite what some stats say. In this video here, it shows how well he defends through the pick and roll.
Another thing Hill does extremely well is putting pressure on the ball handler, on and off the ball.
His injury is a bit for a cause of concern, however, he is still a very excellent player and could be a key player on the Cavs. Safe to say his injury is why his numbers on the offensive and defensive ends have slipped just a bit.

However, a change of scenery for Hill, and being on a winning team could help him a lot.
