The Cleveland Cavaliers have no interest in the Lakers former center, Andrew Bogut. Bogut seemed like a likely solution to the Cavs rim-protecting problem.

Although the Cleveland Cavaliers boast one of the league’s most dynamic offenses, they have a lacking defense. Their defense is also one of the worst at protecting the rim, ranking 27th in blocks per game. On top of that, they also give up far too many offensive rebounds, allowing their opponents to secure 23% of their missed shots.

However, with a solid core of 15 players, they are not interested in Andrew Bogut, who has recently been waived by the Lakers. ESPN’s Dave McMenamin confirmed that there is no interest from the organization in the 33-year-old, 7-foot Australian. The Cleveland Cavaliers are one of just a few teams around the league that do not have a single 7-footer.

Bogut played for the Cavs in one game last season and went down just 58 seconds into that game with a fractured tibia. Bogut hasn’t had a memorable season since he averaged double-digit points for the Bucks back in the 2011-2012 season, so there’s absolutely no guarantee that he could be productive in Cleveland. He was also just waived by the Lakers, who are in the league’s second-worst team.

The bigger story here is the fact that the Cavs management doesn’t seem worried about their frontcourt size. The Cavs, who have had Kevin Love manning the five, have seen great success this season even if it means giving up size on the defensive end. Frontcourt size is not as crucial as it once was, especially with the league continuing to rely more upon the three-point shot.

Another reason for the Cavaliers lack of concern is how they matchup with Golden State. The Warriors “death lineup” does not include a traditional center on the floor and even with Zaza Pachulia, Golden State’s starting center, on the court, the Warriors defense is still reliant on the three.

Ultimately, the traditional center is slowly fading out, and it isn’t shocking that Cleveland keeps their younger players with much more upside. To add to that, the Cavs wouldn’t even have space in their already crowded rotation. Thompson is currently their backup center and any new addition would render him basically useless.

The Cavaliers, unlike last season, do not want to cut any of their players for an aging big like Bogut.
