Point guard

Isaiah Thomas

Derrick Rose

Jose Calderon

Kyrie Irving, iso-king of the NBA and the Cleveland Cavaliers starting point guard for the past six seasons, is gone. At point guard, the Cleveland Cavaliers now have two of the better point guards in the league in Isaiah Thomas, who averaged 28.9 points per game and was an MVP candidate last season, and Derrick Rose, the former MVP who averaged an efficient 18.0 points per game last season in what most considered to be the worst offensive system in today’s NBA. Jose Calderon is a poor defender but is a solid and steady point guard on the offensive end. He offers reliable depth behind a point guard who’s currently injured (Thomas) and has a terrible injury history (Rose). Rose is currently starting and running the second unit in Thomas’ absence (which is sure to boost his season averages before Thomas’ return) but should a backcourt injury occur, Calderon (who has started 567 career games, postseason included) will be a solid reserve.
