#5: Game 6, 2007 vs Detroit: Daniel Gibson’s Career Night

Before June 2nd, 2007, Daniel Gibson was simply known as an average backup point guard. But on that magical Saturday night, he became the talk of the NBA world.

Gibson scored 31 points in the Cavaliers’ series-clinching win over the Pistons that night, including 19 in the fourth quarter. He was 5-for-5 on three point shots, and 12-for-15 from the free throw line.

His point total would not only be a game high, but also a career high for the then-rookie guard. Gibson scored a respectable 21 in Game 4, but his performance in Game 6 was truly one for the record books.

The Cavs’ win that night secured their very first NBA Finals appearance in franchise history. For this reason, Gibson’s remarkable night will always hold a special place in Cavs fans’ hearts.
