PG Deron Williams

2016-17 stats (64 games):

11.0 points, 5.6 assists, 2.3 rebounds, 0.5 steals per game

43.8 FG%, 36.3 3PT%, 82.6 FT%

What he can bring to the Cleveland Cavaliers:

Continuity, creativity, veteran savvy, former All-Star

Deron Williams would be a great player for the Cleveland Cavaliers to re-sign. Above all else, Williams would provide continuity for the Cavs offense, as he once again assumes the role of backup point guard.

Williams’ impact could have been considered lukewarm at first but he’s been heating up since receiving a start against the Miami Heat late in the season, dropping 35 points and dishing out 9 assists.

Playing against the Indiana Pacers in the Cleveland Cavalier’ first round playoff matchup, Williams averaged 8.3 points in just 15.5 minutes per game. He’s a high-level facilitator who has confidence and know-how when it comes to setting up his teammates for easy baskets, whether they’re in the second unit or LeBron James.

He hasn’t been the best finisher in his time with the Cleveland Cavaliers but he operates well in the pick-and-roll with his ability to hit the roll man and midrange jump shots. From three-point range, he’s a threat whether pulling up off-the-dribble or spotting up behind the line.

Defensively, Williams will struggle to stay in front of his man but he’s able to make an impact play here and there.
