The LeBron Effect

All three of these teammates feed off each other, on both ends of the floor. Everybody knows how invaluable LBJ is to the Cavs, and I’m not going to go off on a tangent about that right now. Nonetheless, his playmaking ability mixed with Korver and D-Will2, D-Thrill, whatever you want to call him, has been on a different level as of late. Since Williams joined the Cavs, his efficiency has been incredible, and that’s because he’s had freedom to just play his role.

More from King James Gospel

There’s no pressure for D-Will2 (I hope I got that right) to have to score at a high rate. As a result, he’s been a huge lift for the Cavs bench in his seven games for Cleveland. He’s averaging 10.1 points per contest, and most notably, shooting a career-high 57.1% from the field. He also is knocking down 36.8% from three, in addition to a having insane effective field goal rate of 65.5%.

Those are both career-bests, too. From the defense focusing on players like LBJ and Kyrie, he’s taking advantage of cutting lanes for poster dunks and lobs. The attraction of Korver is getting him open for wide-open threes, too, and he’s had the confidence to hit them. Williams’ activity moving off ball in the half court was a key reason for the Cavs 102-95 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks last night.

Williams is taking full advantage of a change of scenery, as he’s brought a swagger and enthusiasm to a veteran Cavs roster. His energy has helped the team on both ends, with his hustle and willingness to bang inside on the glass. Playing with other talent around him, Williams has blossomed into an impact player for this team heading toward the playoff push. He has a 19 net rating in the Land.

It’s been a heck of a love triangle for the James-Korver-D-Thrill crew in their seven games so far. Mike Zavagno of FearTheSword reported that this trio has been executing at a very, very high rate in their time together on the floor. Their net rating? 30.4.

Zavagno also reported that the Cavs are 11.8 points/100 possessions better with Williams on the floor in February, which is second behind you know who at 15.4. The takeaway from this is the Cavs are 6-0 with this trio active (the one loss was when LBJ was sitting against the Bulls).
