Superstar for Superstar

This one is all about trying to find a better fit on the court. Trading one superstar for another is rare but so is the Love-Cavs situation. Love’s talents seem like they would fit well with the Cavs but haven’t as much as most expected. Trading Love for another max level type player makes sense and generally would be pretty easy from a cap perspective.

We didn’t put the Melo for Love trade in here since everyone has squashed it already.

Here are a few of those possible trades:

Atlanta Hawks

Al Horford may not be on many people’s “max” level player list but he is very close. In this trade, the Hawks get a star to build around in Love instead of risking trying to re-sign Horford. Atlanta is reportedly shopping most of its talent to try to find a better fit long term so this trade makes them younger and they have Love for 4 more seasons after this.

For the Cavs, Horford gives them a versatile player upfront that can play either power position well. He has good range, can defend and is an unselfish player. The Cavs will have to re-sign him, probably to a similar number as Love’s deal. Korver gives them another long range shooter who is also a very good team defender.
