Will Cleveland Cavaliers Fall Out of Playoff Race Without LeBron James?

The Cleveland Cavaliers are trying to make the Eastern Conference playoffs, and without LeBron James they could fall out of the race as their woes continue.

It’s been a rough start to the season for the Cleveland Cavaliers, who are 18-14 this season and are struggling to get anything going on the floor on a consistent basis. The team has been shooting poorly, defending like garbage and playing like a team that just doesn’t know what the hell is going on half the time.

More from LeBron James

All of this is opening them up to be easy targets for the media, who are accusing everyone from Kyrie Irving to LeBron James of not caring about the season and mailing in performances. David Blatt has been put on notice and now the team will be without their best player for the next two weeks.

With LeBron James out, there is a real possibility that the Cavaliers drop hard and fall out of the Eastern Conference playoff race in his absence. That’s a bold statement to say the very least, but there has been nothing about the Cavaliers play of late that suggests they’re going to be better off without the best basketball player on the face of the earth.

Without LeBron James in the lineup though, this could be an opportunity for the Cavaliers to come together as a team and begin to build something special — or, just come together at all.

No one needs to be punching the panic button the way some may want to, but this is going to be a rough two weeks and everyone knows it. Without LeBron James in the lineup though, this could be an opportunity for the Cavaliers to come together as a team and begin to build something special — or, just come together at all.

LeBron James can only do so much on his own and the expectation that he needs to be the sole provider for the Cavaliers is both taxing and incorrect. He’s the leader of the team but he isn’t the entire team. What LeBron needs is assistance and support on the floor from his teammates, not just bunch of guys playing with LeBron James.

Having LeBron out of the lineup means that the Cavaliers will have no choice other than to band together as this is going to be a turning point in the season one way or the other. In a positive way, this could be the point where the Cavaliers learn to play together as a unit and hit their stride with the start of 2015. On the flip side, this could be the stretch of games where it becomes impossible to not start making trades to correct the roster and get the right personnel on the team to make sure this isn’t a lost season.

Either way, LeBron James being out during a brutal stretch of the schedule could end up being worse than anyone imagined as falling out of the playoff picture is a real possibility. Getting back in won’t be hard, but we’ve learned to never assume anything with this dysfunctional Cleveland Cavaliers team.
