The wheels seem to be coming off for the Cleveland Cavaliers, and after a loss to the Utah Jazz should fans be panicking about what is going on.
If you woke up this morning and looked out your window at the cold Cleveland dawn, you noticed that buildings are still standings, naked deviants are not running through the streets and the world was still spinning as it was when you fell asleep. The depression of the Cavaliers season that everyone is used to is still there too though, which is the only thing that seems off about things at the moment.

We are now LeBron Return-Plus-Seven right now, as it’s been a week since the hysteria if his return sweet through Cleveland. Since the, the team has won just once and lost games against the New York Knicks, Portland Trail Blazers and the Utah Jazz. This is obviously causing some concern and it’s bringing fans down as they watch what was supposed to be a glorious return to power instead shape up to be as painful — if not more painful — as every season without LeBron.
So what’s the deal? That’s what fans all over want to know but the answers just aren’t coming. This has opened up the Cleveland Cavaliers to all sorts of criticism thanks to the flamboyant way LeBron’s return was celebrated, but beyond that there isn’t a whole lot to be worried about. Yeah, it’s sort of lame that everyone who wants to have a problem with Cavaliers fans rooting for LeBron have a perfect reason to blast them.
That’s not what Cleveland Cavaliers fans need to be concerned about though, yet it’s something that will fuel the panic that is starting to swell thanks to the 1-3 start from the team. Those shouting from a distance about how the LeBron experiment will fail are like the devil Cavs fans’ shoulders — they need to be ignored.
Here are the facts:
- The Cavaliers are 1-3 and in a two-game losing streak
- Kyrie Irving isn’t passing the ball as much as he should be
- Defensively, the Cavaliers need to start making major adjustments
- There are 78 games left in the season
That’s what Cavaliers fans should be focusing on right now ad not the shouting from those wanting to exploit the situation to get off on it.
It seems like a cop out to say there are 78 games left in the season, but that’s the major fact that should keep Cavaliers fans from panicking right now. Theoretically, the Cavaliers just need to win 38 games to make the playoffs as that’s all the Hawks needed last year to make it in as the eighth seed.
Say the Cavaliers win 44 games this season — that’s how many the Brooklyn Nets won last year to secure the sixth seed in the East. If Cleveland goes 44-38 and locks up the sixth seed, then they could end up playing the Toronto Raptors in the first round, the Bulls or Heat in the second round and then the other one of those two teams in the conference Finals. All of a sudden, the Cavaliers become a dangerous team as a low seed to may even end up playing and knocking out the Heat, Bulls or Raptors in the first round of the postseason.
That’s what Clevland Cavaliers fans who are starting to panic need to think about. The season does not end next week — it ends in April which means there is a lot of basketball left to turn things around and figure things out.
