What We Expected: Fringe Playoff Team
What We’ve Seen: The Timberwolves look like a playoff team alright, but not a fringe one. There is a solid core here, a strange and imperfect one, but one that has that “team of destiny” vibe that takes hold of perennial underdogs tired of their downtrodden lot. They’ve had some issues. Nikola Pekovic seems a step slow, Ricky Rubio still isn’t a threat to score on the perimeter, and the specter of another spate of injuries looms over a team that plays in a brutal conference that is wide open for the taking. But come on. Kevin Love has looked like a monster. Kevin Martin is playing with Kings era efficiency and spreading the floor with his ugly but accurate three point shooting. The return of a more mature Corey Brewer may prove a key move in hindsight.
In One Month: The Wolves will run away with their goal of the 6th seed. Kevin Love will defiantly claim the mantle of “Pretty Much the Best Power Forward in the League” and Ricky Rubio will be charming.
