5. Houston Rockets (3-0, Up 1)

Those who worried about the Rockets needing time to blend in their new players can rest easy. Dwight Howard looks to be in imperious form and James Harden will be in the conversation for MVP if he continues averaging 26 points per game on 52% shooting.

Key for them over the next two weeks will be how they cope with Patrick Beverley’s absence. In the absence of their do-it-all guard, Jeremy Lin will have to step up and fill the void.

6. Oklahoma City Thunder (2-1, Down 2)

The Thunder slugged to a win against Utah before being blown out of the water by an up-and-coming Timberwolves squad in a loss that dredges up big questions. Durant only scored 13 points, his first sub-15 point performance in 147 consecutive games. He also only had one assist. The Thunder as a team shot 34.9%. My eyes almost bled watching them.

And then as if by magic, it’s all looking up. Russell Westbrook made a shock return to action Sunday night and the Thunder can now focus on being one of the best offensive units in the league.
