Two studs, one dud from Cavaliers' blowout win over the Hawks
By Ismail Sy
Stud: Evan Mobley
Evan Mobley continues to amaze as the season progresses. He has upped his game on almost every level this season. Yes, he’s not averaging 30 points per game, or shooting 40% from three point range. He does not have to do that in order to have a huge impact on the game. Mobley finished with 17 points, 19 rebounds, and seven blocks. Here is the list of NBA players who have done that since the year 2000:
Shaquille O’Neal
Anthony Davis
That's it. That is the list. Mobley is the only non-Laker to achieve this statline in over two decades. He is continuing to take the coveted third year leap, and has been an absolute revelation for the Cavs this season. He was a huge reason why the Cavs ended the second quarter on a 23-10 run, as he was the five man in a lineup with four shooters in Garland, Mitchell, Strus, and Niang. He has been better suited to play the five spot this season due to his improved physicality.
The naysayers who think Mobley has not improved are just plain wrong. He is now at 12 double-doubles in 18 games. Last season it took him until January 18th to reach his 12th double-double. He has been on a different level this season, and the Cavs need him to play at an elite level.
