Reason No. 3 Bates will blossom: Zero pressure

As I alluded to before, Bates was touted as the hottest thing since sliced bread just a couple of years ago. That hype has now turned into a stale piece of bread, and that might be a blessing in disguise for Bates. He has gone from earth-shattering expectations to almost none at all.

He is not expected to come in and contribute right away. Yes, the Cavs do have a problem on the wing right now, but they will likely add to the roster this offseason and they already have options that are better than what Bates can give them at this point in time. Bates can be brought along slowly.

He is no longer expected to be Kevin Durant. He does not have to be an all-time great player. That ship has sailed. He can now develop and tap into his potential the right way. He no longer has cameras in his face, Overtime and BallisLife following him around. The best thing a young player can have besides his first guaranteed contract is no pressure. That is the luxury Bates has and he has to take advantage.

The Cavs aced their only pick of the draft and now have to develop him into a quality NBA player. This is one of the best situations Bates could have ended up in. He has the talent and ability. Now it is time for him to tap into it. Welcome to The Land, Emoni Bates.
