Cavaliers can’t go wrong bringing in 2 rumored trade targets from Nets
By Dan Gilinsky
Finney-Smith and O’Neale could work well playing with the Cavs stars
In Finney-Smith’s case, he was working well playing off Luka Doncic for several seasons, and with O’Neale, that was with Brooklyn in this past season, and he played five seasons alongside Donovan Mitchell with Utah. That familiarity playing with Mitchell could surely be picked right up again if O’Neale were to be acquired by the Cavaliers, in stretches together.
Now, it’s not necessarily a certainty both Finney-Smith and O’Neale could be attainable, and/or in the same deal, but Cleveland can’t go wrong with seeking one and/or both this offseason.
Finney-Smith is 30, and signed through the next two seasons, with a player option for the 2025-26 campaign, and O’Neale in this case would have his deal fully guaranteed for $9.5 million for 2023-24, with him set to be expiring after next season.
O’Neale could be a viable candidate to keep around by way of extension down the road, though, as he’s still only set to be in age-30 season next year as well. And as we noted, he has plenty of familiarity with Mitchell.
Both of these rumored Nets potential trade targets would be solid trade acquisitions for the Cavs, who have to address their small forward and perimeter shooting questions.
