It seems to be a matter of when, as opposed to if, as it pertains to the Cleveland Cavaliers eventually bringing in perimeter shooting help, and others on the wing.

The Cavaliers have to sure up their 3 man outlook, and in general, Cleveland has to put more shooting around their backcourt duo of Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell. If the Cavaliers can do those things, it should really pay dividends for this group that has an impressive frontcourt to pair with Garland and Mitchell, too.

Whether or not Cleveland ends up re-signing Caris LeVert this offseason, it’s a reasonable estimation the Wine and Gold will look to further solidify their wing outlook. Rumored potential free agent targets seem to be players such as Yuta Watanabe, Jalen McDaniels, Kelly Oubre Jr. and Donte DiVincenzo, among others.

Regarding possible trade targets that have been linked to the Cavaliers, players such as Royce O’Neale, Dorian Finney-Smith, Bojan Bogdanovic and Buddy Hield have been mentioned, and all could make a big difference in their own rights.

To that point, it would appear to be a relatively high likelihood Cleveland could add one of those Brooklyn Nets wings, those being Watanabe or the stated trade candidates in O’Neale and/or Finney-Smith.

Further, it was also reported by Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com in a recent mailbag that the Cavaliers almost completed a deal near the past trade deadline to acquire O’Neale in a deal with the Nets. Fedor’s report expressed how the Cavs “were far down the road” on a deal for O’Neale, before the Nets decided to keep him through the deadline.

Finney-Smith has been a player that’s been often rumored as a potential target for the Cavs to trade for, too. With the Nets in a transitional period following their trades of Kyrie Irving and then Kevin Durant near the last deadline, it doesn’t seem so far-fetched that Cleveland could maybe acquire one of or both of O’Neale and Finney-Smith.

In a recently suggested trade from Fanspo user 49ERS FOREVER on the trade site, the Cavaliers brought both in in exchange for Isaac Okoro, Dean Wade, Ricky Rubio and four second-round picks.

This could be sensible for both sides, with O’Neale set to be expiring, the Nets acquiring two young developmental guys in Okoro and Wade, and with Brooklyn accumulating four second-round picks to have for possible picks or additional trade assets.

From the Cavaliers’ standpoint, this would provide meaningful wing help, and more shooting around their stars.

The Cavs can’t go wrong bringing in O’Neale and Finney-Smith via trade from the Nets this offseason.

Cleveland would clearly be in the right here in acquiring these two Nets wings.
