Free Agent Target No. 6: Jeff Green, Denver Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets had the best record in the Western Conference this season and have their sights set on winning the West and making it to the NBA Finals. They have an offensive juggernaut built around Nikola Jokic, but it’s their defense that has stepped up in the playoffs thus far.

Part of what has worked for the Nuggets defensively is swarming the court with switchable defenders, and Jeff Green has been a key piece of that puzzle. He is playing as the backup 5 when Jokic sits and proving that even at 36 years old he has something to offer.

The Cavaliers could sign Green, who played a season in Cleveland back in 2017-18, to be the backup big behind Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley. He would also be able to serve as something of a veteran mentor to Mobley, Dean Wade and Lamar Stevens in the frontcourt. He would most likely be available at the veteran’s minimum, which at his age is a decent chunk of change.

Another intriguing free agent candidate on the Nuggets is Bruce Brown, who is having yet another excellent season as a do-it-all defensive wing. While he is worth the money he will make this summer, the reason he is thriving in Denver is that they have shooting all around him. The Cavs don’t have that, and he will likely end up filling a similar role to Isaac Okoro.
