No. 4: Danny Green, 46th pick in 2009 Draft

Our second boomerang player is Danny Green, who is also the player on this list with the most team success — and it’s not close. Green is one of the most decorated journeyman players in the history of the NBA, winning championships with three different teams.

Green’s career started in 2009, when the 6’6″ wing out of North Carolina went 46th overall to the Cavaliers. Following the theme of this piece, his first team didn’t recognize his value, and after bouncing between the Cavs and the G League he was waived and signed as a free agent with the San Antonio Spurs.

The developmental staff of the Spurs unlocked Green’s perimeter shot, and the rest is history. He became a starter in his third season and was the best shooter and a core player on multiple NBA Finals teams, winning the title in 2013-14 with San Antonio and playing 100 playoff games with the team. He went on to win titles with the Toronto Raptors and Los Angeles Lakers in back-to-back seasons, then was a key starter on another pair of Philadelphia 76ers playoff teams as well.

As of this writing, Green is back with the Cavaliers, signing a deal on the buyout market as he works his way back from an ACL tear. Green’s 165 career playoff games ranks 31st all-time, and he could add to that total this season.
