The Cleveland Cavaliers recently brought back an old friend in wing Danny Green, who was originally drafted by Cleveland and spent his rookie season with the Wine and Gold.

Green was part of a trade that saw him get traded to the Houston Rockets at the NBA trade deadline, on Feb. 9. Green was quickly bought out of his contract with the Rockets, making him a free agent, cleared to sign with whatever team he would like, and Green choose the Cavaliers and looks to bolster their roster, as well as their rotation.

So, what should Cavs fans expect from Green at this stage?

Realistically, Green isn’t going to be looked as someone, who will give you 20 points a game or close to that at this stage. That’s never been his game, nor calling. Green has always been about defense and knocking down the three ball. Green, recently returning from a torn ACL, may not be able to move like he once did, defensively, but he can still knock down the three ball with the best of them. Green can come off the bench, if need be, and provide veteran leadership on the floor and shooting, which are two things that the Cavs needed.

Green can space the floor for the Cavaliers and have teams play them honest at the three-point line. Green would be a welcomed addition with his three-point marksmanship. Cleveland, who is ranked 12th in three-point percentage, should improve with Green in the mix. Darius Garland, an improved shooter in Donovan Mitchell and the specialist that is Danny Green will definitely have defenses on their heels and open up the offense a bit.

Green will not be expected to play huge minutes for the Cavs. He’s no longer a spring chicken, as he is 35 years old, but the minutes that he spends on the floor can be of tremendous value to the team. His veteran leadership and knowing what it takes in the playoffs can pay off huge for the Cavaliers, too.

Green is the ideal veteran, who the teams needs. Being that Green has been to the top before, he can provide leadership and calmness to a team that is fairly young, and not allow them to become rattled in hostile environments and to continue to play their game. Veteran leadership can’t be stated enough for teams entering the playoffs.

Green is a three-time NBA champion and was an intricate part of each championship, with one being with the San Antonio Spurs, one with the Toronto Raptors and one with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Green’s experience in the playoffs, as well as winning championships, can only bring positive energy to a young team that is looking to make some noise, once the postseason begins.
