Would the Cavaliers make this trade?

This deal has the outline of the right kind of deal for the Cavaliers. Cam Reddish is 6’8″ with ideal size to play the 3, he is only 23 years old, and he will almost certainly be on a team-friendly contract next season as a result of his play and his restricted status.

This season, Reddish is shooting a middling 44.9 percent from the field, with a 30.4 percent accuracy from long-range. If the Cavs trade for him, they need to be confident that he can take a step forward. That’s hard to evaluate from afar.

If the Reddish who dominated high school basketball and played very well at Duke can’t find his way back to the court, he’s not worth giving up any assets. If he can put things together he has the exact profile for the player who fills the hole in the starting lineup. How confident can the Cavs be before making a deal?

Taking a swing without giving up a valuable player seems like a reasonable deal, a relatively low cost for a low-probability shot at finding a future starter. It’s so hard to find a two-way wing that even moves with a low chance of converting might be worth doing. Hopefully, whether at the deadline or in the offseason, the Cavs can find a better deal than this.
