Ranking 3 trade targets for the Cavs as deadline approaches
By John Suchan
No. 1 ranked trade target: Bojan Bogdanovic, Detroit Pistons
Since this is the ranking of best trade targets, this one to get Bojan Bogdanovic would be the best trade for the Cavs because the team would be getting a great shooter and a veteran that could send them deep into postseason contention.
He’s having the best season in his lengthy career. He is scoring 21 points a game while shooting 42% from the three-point line for the lowly Detroit Pistons this season. While the Pistons are stuck in neutral the Cavs are going places. This would be a good move for both the team and the player.
Bogdanovic used to play for the Utah Jazz as well and was Donovan Mitchell’s former teammate for three seasons. He’s a lifetime 15 points-a-game player and has been in the NBA since 2014. This season he’s taking almost 15 shots a game, which includes six three-point attempts.
Cleveland would likely have to trade Caris LeVert and/or Isaac Okoro to the Pistons (perhaps with other Detroit filler then) if this deal were to be made. While that might seem like a lot, Bogdanovic is a much more consistent scorer and would make Cleveland an even bigger player in the push to the playoffs.
The Croatia native has scored more than 30 points in five games this season, and he went for 33 points in a recent game against the Milwaukee Bucks where he shot 73% from the floor and 6-of-7 from beyond the arc.
The most skilled and productive player in this trade target chatter for the Cavaliers has to be Bogdanovic. He would certainly give Cleveland a player they could count on, and that’s what the Cavs didn’t get when they traded for LeVert a year ago.
While he has had his great moments as a Cav, LeVert’s been all over the place in terms of points scored and that inconsistency unfortunately is why we are talking more trades today.
Stay tuned — Feb. 9 is fast approaching.
