The Cleveland Cavaliers are having a stellar season, thus far. They are currently the fifth season in the Eastern Conference at 31-21, and if they continue their current play, they’ll find themselves getting ready to make a playoff run.

With that being said, if the Cavs want to go far, one particular team that they need to avoid playing is the Boston Celtics.

The Cavs absolutely have to avoid the Celtics in the Eastern Conference Playoffs.

The Celtics, who are the No. 1 seed in the East right now, are arguably the best team in the NBA and the most balanced team. Rarely do we ever see a starting lineup, one through five, that plays on the offensive side and defensive side of the ball. As a team, Boston is first in the league in net rating, and they’re fourth in offensive and defensive rating as well.

The Celtics have an MVP candidate in Jayson Tatum and the reigning Defensive Player of the Year in Marcus Smart. Jaylen Brown would be a No. 1 option on most teams and their defensive rim protector, Robert Williams, is anchoring the team on that end. Al Horford brings a steady calmness to the team, along with his veteran leadership. And coupled with their starters, the Celts bring a deep bench led by Grant Williams and Malcolm Brogdon.

The Cavaliers, I believe, would make the matchup competitive. After all, the Cavs do own a victory over the Celtics back in November and shortly prior to that in October, but both of the victories did come in overtime, though.

When the playoffs come around, however, teams can zero in more on the other team they are playing and their weaknesses. The Cavs’ lack of playoff experience, coupled with a team in Boston that can focus on that, may mean trouble for Cleveland. The Cavaliers’ road woes are something to keep in mind as well, whereas the Celtics have ample experience in that regard.

Now, Cleveland has size in the middle with Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen, which may cause some issues for Boston. But, Mobley’s inconsistency on the offensive end, along with Allen not being known for his offensive abilities, may be too much for the Cavaliers to overcome in a potential playoff series.

Boston is anxious to get the bad taste of losing in the NBA Finals last season to the Golden State Warriors out of their mouths, too. Unfortunately, Cleveland may be a speed bump in that process.
