3 players the Cavs could sign with the MLE this upcoming offseason
No. 2: Alec Burks
This would be a reunion for Alec Burks, as he played on the Cavs back in the 2018-19 season, after being traded for Kyle Korver. Burks is a journeyman, playing for 7 different teams in his NBA career, and he’s only 31 years old. He is a solid shooter, and an okay playmaker for a wing position.
Just like Richardson, he is a veteran player who plays on the bench for a young and rebuilding team. He’s currently shooting 44.6% from distance on 4.5 3-point attempts per night. So Burks could really help the bench scoring and shooting if he were to reunite with the Cavs roster.
Last time Burks was on the Cavaliers, he was a starter for a tanking team, but if he were to sign to Cleveland next offseason, he’d be a primary bench piece for a potential NBA champion team. I’m sure Burks would want to spend the last few good seasons of his career playing for a competing team, not a rebuilding team like the Pistons (sorry, Detroit).
He’d probably take the primary backup small forward position from Isaac Okoro or Cedi Osman, and he’d help the Cavs with their bench scoring, which as I mentioned earlier, they lack heavily in that regard.
However, it is important to note that Burks has about a $10 million team option. But, for the sake of the article, we’ll assume the team option is declined, and Burks decides to test free agency.
