Cavs trade target No. 2 – Kenrich Williams

Kenrich Williams is not the hottest name on the trade market, but if the Oklahoma City Thunder are willing to move on from him to alleviate their roster crunch, a number of NBA teams will come calling. Should that include the Cleveland Cavaliers?

Williams is essentially a 6’6″ power forward, a do-it-all defender who would be like having a smaller version of Evan Mobley on the court. He is perfect for nearly every scheme, from switching to zone to blitzing. The version of Williams that shot 44.4 percent from deep two seasons ago is more attractive than the one who hit 33.9 last season; this year he has settled down in the middle at 36.8 percent.

The contract value is the other big positive for Williams, who makes just $2 million this season. He then will get a slight pay raise onto a four-year extension (fourth-year team option) that will pay him $7 million a season. That’s peanuts for a reliable rotation player.

Williams would be a helpful piece for any team to have, but the Cavs already have a lot of defensive forwards they love, and unless they can add one who defends and shoots they probably don’t want to give up the assets it would require to bring Williams aboard.

Verdict: Pass
