Cavs stud No. 2: Lamar Stevens

What a nice surprise from Lamar Stevens last night. He got his 13th start of the season as the Cavaliers look to figure out their wing position, and he definitely impressed a lot of people. The swingman had 18 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field. On top of that he grabbed 11 rebounds to complete his double-double.

On the defensive end, he was a star in the first half. He was a large reason the Cavs took a 19-point lead into the break. Stevens was the man tasked with stopping, or trying to slow down Luka Doncic, and he did. In the first half he held him to 4-of-13 shooting from the field, which was huge in giving the Cavs a big lead at the break.

While the Cavaliers keep trying to figure out the small forward position, Stevens has made a great case for himself. In those 13 games starting he has averaged 8.6 points and just over five rebounds. Those are better numbers than Dean Wade and Isaac Okoro, and the spark he provides also gives his stock an extra boost.

We’ll see regarding the trade deadline, or even going forward this season, but if anything, Stevens has certainly made a strong case to be the starting candidate going forward.
