Which newly eligible Cavs will be traded?

Raul Neto – decent chance

Raul Neto was signed to back up Darius Garland before the team traded for Donovan Mitchell, and accordingly has seen a very small role this season even when Garland or Mitchell have missed time due to injury. When Ricky Rubio returns he will just be chilling on the bench, and the Cavs therefore could listen to a call on Neto or include him in a larger deal for salary-matching purposes.

Robin Lopez – small chance

The Cavs seem to love the way Robin Lopez boosts this team off the court, with his easy-going demeanor and veteran experience a part of the Cavs’ excellent chemistry. He’s been fine when on the court, but he also isn’t vital to the rotation and Cleveland has other options like Mamadi Diakite to work in. If another team called after Lopez, they would listen, but there is no reason they need to move on from him.

Ricky Rubio – no chance

The Cavs flourished with Ricky Rubio running the point last season, both with the bench unit and alongside Garland in some closing lineups. They were locked into bringing him back in free agency and have a specific role in mind for him when he returns from injury. He’s on a bargain contract for two more seasons and there is basically no chance he gets traded.

Trade rumors will only increase this week as the league reached the Dec 15 mark, and the next two months could see a number of teams start pulling the trigger. Will that mean one of these Cleveland Cavaliers will be moved? It’s not likely, but it’s certainly possible this active front office makes a move to help improve the Cavs’ chances at contending.
