The Cleveland Cavaliers are rolling, 7-2 in their last nine games despite missing Jarrett Allen for nearly the entire stretch and other players for many of them. The Cavs are 15-8 overall, third in the Eastern Conference, with the NBA’s second-best point differential and a defense virtually tied with Milwaukee at the top.

The New York Knicks are in a very different place, with the NBA’s sixth-worst net rating and a 10-13 record placing them 11th in the East. They have had inconsistent production from their tentpole players like Julius Randle and RJ Barrett, and none of the young players has taken a massive step forward.

The Cavs head into Madison Square Garden, one of the greatest NBA arenas in the world, to take on the Knicks tonight. Should they be afraid of stumbling under the bright lights, or is this a step in their continued dominance to start the season?

Betting odds, spread, over/under

The Cavs will be on the road tonight against a team that receives unearned confidence from bettors, so it’s no surprise to see them favored by just three points against an inferior team. The Knicks are getting three points (i.e. favored to lose by) and the over/under point total is 222, according to our friends over at WynnBet.

Cavs injury report

Dean Wade (out, shoulder); Jarrett Allen (out, back); Ricky Rubio (out indefinitely, knee); Dylan Windler (out indefinitely, ankle)

Cleveland Cavaliers starting lineup tonight

Cavs: Darius Garland, Donovan Mitchell, Isaac Okoro, Lamar Stevens, Evan Mobley

Knicks: Jalen Brunson, Quentin Grimes, RJ Barrett, Julius Randle, Mitchell Robinson

Prediction

The New York Knicks spent a lot of money this summer to sign Jalen Brunson, and he has been a really good addition for them. They also chose not to spend a lot of assets to trade for Donovan Mitchell, and he has been an amazing addition for the Cavs. That storyline will absolutely be mentioned throughout the broadcast no matter where you are watching from tonight.

The Knicks have some really solid players, but Brunson is the only one who is close to being a consistently great player. The way that the Cavaliers defense is playing it will be hard for anyone on the Knicks to get going unless they suddenly spit fire from deep.

On the other end of the court, the Knicks are going to be vulnerable to the Cavs’ shooting, especially Kevin Love and his comfort level bombing away. The Knicks have a host of more traditional bigs and Love could be the X-factor in blowing things open. His return is a major boost to the Cavs offense.

Donovan Mitchell loves the big stage, and Evan Mobley is rolling on both ends of the court right now. The Knicks have enough good players to keep it close, but Cleveland should blanket them on defense and pull away on offense.

Prediction: Cleveland 112, New York 102

CAVALIERS (-3), UNDER
